The best pool winterising products for 2026

A winterising concentrate is poured into a pool once, in autumn, and its job is to keep the water from turning into a green problem while nobody is looking at it. The figure that decides value on this shelf is not the bottle size but the dose per cubic metre, and it is the one figure that makes prices comparable: a one-litre bottle dosed at 10 ml/m³ treats 100 m³, and a five-litre bottle dosed at 100 ml/m³ treats 50. Listings that state the pool volume they cover — "für 20 m³" — have done that division; listings that state only the volume of liquid have not. The second thing to read is whether the product is chlorine-stable, which is the technical claim behind Bayrol's "chlorstabil": many algicides are quaternary ammonium compounds that are degraded by chlorine, and a winter product that is not stable in the presence of residual chlorine is spent long before spring. The third is what the concentrate actually does, because "3 in 1" covers several combinations: algae prevention, scale and metal sequestration, and flocculation. A pool with hard water needs the second; a pool with iron in the fill water needs the third. And the temperature at which it is dosed — below about 15 °C, with the filter run once afterwards to distribute it — which is a procedural detail these products fail on more than a chemical one.
