What actually happens when you press one

Every "Check price on Amazon" button carries an affiliate tag. Follow one, buy the filter or the tub of tablets at the end of it, and a share of that sale comes back to us. Amazon charges you its own price: arriving through this site adds nothing to it and takes nothing off it.

Which way the incentive pulls, and what holds it

Commission is a percentage of a sale, so one heat pump is worth a great many packets of test strips. That pull is real and is better stated than denied. Three arrangements hold against it, and each can be checked against the pages rather than taken on trust:

• Where a product lands in a family has nothing to do with what it pays. No commission rate is looked at while a family is being ordered, and no family has been reshuffled afterwards because an entry turned out to earn more. When the right answer is the cheapest item on the page — or nothing at all, as when the ground has to be levelled before any pool is worth ordering — the page says so.
• Some of the firmest recommendations on this site cost very little. A five-euro filter cartridge stocked in every garden centre, a second one so the first can dry between runs, a bag of pool salt at the right purity: none of them earns much, and each changes more about a season than a costlier machine would. Price does not decide, and neither does commission.
• When a reference has no confirmed offer on the Amazon store this site links to — and heavy equipment is stocked very unevenly from one market to the next, because freight decides it — the button runs a search there rather than opening a listing that may have disappeared. It pays us less and costs you nothing.

What has never been on sale here

A place in a family, a paragraph, a kinder adjective: none of it has ever carried a price, and none carries one now. Not a page on this site is sponsored. A verdict does not move because a model goes out of stock or because a rival would pay better — there is nothing in the way these pages are built that could respond to what a product earns.

About the figure printed next to a product

That live figure is Amazon's own recorded price for your market, held briefly and then fetched again. This shelf moves on a strong season: equipment is discounted hardest in the weeks after the season ends, and a heat pump can hold one price from December through February and then drop sharply in the summer. Treat any band written into a review as the bracket it is, and treat the number Amazon shows at the moment you order as the only one that settles anything.
